Hi
Introduction I am the father of a beautiful teen age duaghter. We are presently awaiting results from a battery of tests that we have ordered from a Lyme Lab in Palo Alto. I am still somewhat uncertain if she suffers from Lyme, but am becoming increasingly convinced that Lyme is involved. Once we get the results, I intent to connect with a Lyme literate physician to review the results and to hopefully evaluate any linkage in my duaghters symptoms.
Recent Discoveries On February 28th, 2007 my daughter was prescribed an ointment (SSD) for a nasty bite she received while clearing brush in the hillsides of our home. (Our backyard is Cleaveland National Forrest in California. We frequently see deer grazing out our kitchen window.) Not knowing anything about ticks or Lyme, we just used the ointment, and forgot about the incident. In the lasy month, we viewed a number of websites and saw the tell tale bulls eye images. In seeing them, my wife commented in shock "It looked just like that, only six times worse!"
Past Medical History Prior to her adolescent years, she had suffered from a number of undiagnosed illnesses that in modern vernacular would be catagorized as Autism. In addition to her undiagnosed forms of brain fog and inability to thrive in school, she had reoccuring ear infections. For a number of yearsm she experienced reoccuring ear infections, for which she received cell wall inhibiting antibiotics. (The Protein Synthesis Inhibitors generated adverse responses, so they told us to stay away from them.) After years of seeing "specilists" on both coasts we found some level of relief in my daughter's symptoms through alergy treatments utilizing injectable forms of Transfer Factor and specific food antigens. (Foods, Molds, and other environmental toxins were able of generating milder forms of mental illness even at this younger age.) Further, my wife also suffers from similar immune system / allergic reactions. (She too grew up in a rural area of Southern California and has been genetically tested as succepptable to both lyme and mold.) She too found relief from these same forms of allergy treatments.
Recent Medical History In February of 2009, by Daghter became severly psycotic, and remain so as of this writting. She has been hospitilized twice over the past year. Each time she was dicharged, displaying more severe forms of mental illness than when she was admitted. My wife and I would cry out to God pleading to help. We would cry so hard for days on end, looking for some way to help our daughter. (My wife and I have since vowed to never allow her to be hospitilized again.) Since her discharge in the fall of 2009, it has been a dialy battle, but we have been able to slowly reduce her levels of reactivity. While still psycotic, she is now at least managable agian. I attribute the majority of our success due to the VERY restrictive dietary protocols that we strictly follow, and the use of the injectable form of Transfer Factor. (The antipycotic medication is now again able to work at standard dosages.)
Recent Enlightenment Over the past year, I have spent untold hours of time studying every aspect of possible causes for my daughters condition. Yeast, Heavy Metals, Leaky Gut...... I have spent hundreds of dollars downloading the latest studies on cytokins, and inflammation, and inteferron and prostaglandins, and COX 2 inhibitors, and Nitric Oxide and ...... More recently, I saw a video blog by Bryan identifying that Lyme could be the cause for various forms of mental illness. I spent a good deal of time doing further research on the subject, and shared these thoughts my wife. It was then it clicked. She remembered the insect bite that my daughter had in 2007. We called the pharmasist and got the date she sold us the ointment. (Thanks Bryan!)
Heading Forward Having now read up on the subject, the various symptoms and treatmnet responses fit like a glove with so many of the issues that we have experinced both prior to 2007 and certainly (even more so) after 2007. (In fact, these were the same issues that baffled the doctors in the psyc wards.) We again have hope that there will be treatments that will work for my daughter (and my wife.)
Closing I have been truely blessed by this site and the materials that have been made available to folks like us. I will continue to follow the site as we continue down this path that the Lord has lead us to follow.
