I am a 52 year-old female. I have always enjoyed shooting one sort of gun or the other. During my second marriage I was lucky enough to have a husband that welcomed me to go hunting. I became an avid hunter, taking everything from squirrel & dove to wild boar & deer. I live in Maryland/north east USA. I knew so much about hunting that I was able to secure a job as "The Director Of Hunting and Fishing" on the Aberdeen Proving Ground. I spent alot of time in the woods & also continued to hunt in any spare time I could muster. I even taught Lymes Disease prevention classes! That was back in 1986. I did not have any of the noticable symptoms (rash, etc). I was always working non traditional jobs and left to study carpentry in trade school. I graduated and began working doing framing, renovations, and laying tile. After about 2 years, my knees swelled-up like footballs & I couldn't even walk. I was tested & diagnosed with Lymes Disease. I was simply given one month of oral antibiotics and that was that. Everything seemed fine..then, a few years later, while living in Georgia..I couldn't hardly walk or stand upright. I went to my Dr. and he gave me the active ingredient in "Allieve". That did wondersd for me! For a while. I have within the past 4 years walked with a cane, but the condition only lasted about a week. For about the past 6 months, I've been on constant pain pills (Lortab). I am allergic to nsids & suffered colitis for 6 months & a hospital stay due to nsids. I refuse to take anything stronger than Lortab 10/500 because I hate feeling "tipsy". I do not drink or smoke or do any unprescribed drugs..heck, I feel like a failure by taking 2 Lortab a day! My Dr. is a physician's assistant & I just don't think she "gets it". I am in unbearable pain & can't sleep the pain is so bad! She wants me off of pain pills (I would love to be, but not now). She treated me w/oral antibiotics for 1 month & did a blood test & said the level in my blood isn't high enough for my symptoms to be Lymes-related! I've only been treated with oral antibiotics twice & never IV antibiotics. I get numby-tingly feelings shooting down my leg & even my muscles hurt! I have had Lymes disease for 24 years and am suffering terribly, but don't know what to do, where to go, or who to see. I have to take a break now, the pain is too much. Aprilee

Aprilee, which blood tests did they do? I would ask to see the first ones and these last tests. If you look up the types of blood tests that doctors usually do to find out if you have Lyme, some produce a false positive. So ask your doctor which ones, but first look up the names of these blood tests. These can be found on many internet sites..when you use your search engine. Have you seen the symptoms from Chronic Lyme Disease? They're frightening. Just keep in front of your physicians..know everything you can about this disease and bring it in with you when you see your doctor(s). Highlight the information you have questions on. If your doctor acts like this is all in your head..get another doctor, FAST! The one I have asks me to being in any information on this disease that I find credible from medical internet websites. Keep your chin up...a day at a time.
