Hi Bryan and fellow bloggers,

I just got diagnosed with Lyme and started antibiotics three days ago. I've been reading quite a bit and trying to understand Herx Reaction and its effect. As a side note, I have suffered with anxiety for 17 years, and I started feeling better this past year as I developed a relaxation practice with meditation. Anyway, I feel like I am going crazy again, though, because I read some articles on the internet regarding Herx and I feel like I may just die. I am so scared of the symptoms as this is my third day of meds and beginning to feel things lurking. Is it possible that someone could actually die from Herx or is it just the exaggerated feelings of the symptom that give that indication? I am really worried and ask that someone out there could shed some light and I can feel hope that I will get through it. Thank you!

I got lyme in May '09 and knew right away since I found the tick. The doctor told me to throw away the tick and come back in 2 weeks if I found a bulls eye. I knew too much to believe the doctor, but for some reason allowed myself to be lulled by the "professionals". Two weeks later I didn't see the bulls eye initially, but I had this huge lump the size of a tangerine in the lymph nodes, where the upper thigh meets the hip, kind of where a hernia might be. When I pressed it it was very painful. Within an hour of this discovery I came down with a 103 degree fever and was too sick to got to the emergency room. I slept for about 12 hours then went back to my family doctor who lifted my shirt --- bingo, right where the tick bite had been, was a huge bulls eye, red and raw. He put me on doxycyclin. I stayed on the doxy for 21 days, but was only given 200 milligrams per day. I felt a little better, but as soon as I went off the doxy I got really sick again, and started having back pain, a roiling, throbbing pain, that seemed to wrap around from thigh to hip to tick bite area. I decided to go back on the meds, and got them myself over the counter, since I was out of the country. (So great having this kind of luxury, to just go buy the meds you need, without the middleman... professional. And they are soooo cheap in Latin America!) Soon, I realized that the antibiotics were a mixed blessing. On them the pain was duller, but I was feeling sick and toxic. I went off them, and then in August '09 started having stabbing pains in my right knee, accompanied by the same lymph node swelling, like a kiwi, in the back of my right knee. My family doctor told me I didn't have lymes anymore, it was "post lyme arthritis." That was my last visit to that doctor. Then stabbing pains and bulges started in my right hand, right elbow, right shoulder. I thought the lymes was imitating lupus. In September '09 I left my job. My son found Bryan Rosner's book and we decided rife therapy was going to be important. We found an angel in Pennsylvania who puts them together and trained us how to use it the day before Thanksgiving '09. As we left his house, I told my husband, this was one of the most important days of my life. I saw and felt hope, like a sprig of evergreen. I saw hope for myself and for my family. I herxed from the very first 15 second treatment, and have had 2 or three days pain free. This is a miracle, since I had been hobbling around like I was twice my age, with no other causative factors other than a tick bite.

That's the short version of my story. There is a much longer version which includes my childrens' adventures in lymeland, which makes my own story pale in comparison since I had no prolonged hospital stays or bipolar diagnoses. Sometimes things happen for a reason. I think I got lymes for a reason: to heal my family. So many things are starting to make sense now. And one thing is crystal clear: you may have to trust your own intuition.

Every time I herx, and I am up to 6 minutes at a time on the rife machine, I thank my lucky stars!! Basically the worst herx has been a two day malaise that is general body ache and headache. I have been drinking a lot of water, and using olive leaf extract and gluthione as well. Also I try to exercise in some way shape or form every day. Restorative Kripalu yoga has been a blessing even while herxing.

I would say listen to Bryan and Connie on things lyme. The lymes controversy is interesting. Lyme literate doctors keep you on antibiotics and that suits big Pharma. General family doctors have to cowtow to the insurance providers who pay their patient fee. So they are invested in telling people it's in their imagination.

Who loses? The deathly ill patient, who can spend years trapped and crippled with misdiagnoses.
