Does anyone know why antibiotics have to be taken for so long when you have late-stage Lyme? With most infections, like sinus infections, ear infections, skin infections, and early stage Lyme, antibiotics usually work in just a few weeks. Why do late-stage vector-borne infections take so long? Does it take a long time for the antibiotics to penetrate our tissues? Does it have to do with the bacterial life cycle (e.g., the bacteria are vulnerable only at certain times)?
Also, we hear a lot about bacterial toxins causing the Herxheimer reaction. What, exactly, are those toxins? I've heard that ammonia is one of them.
