Lariam for Babesia

I was curious if anyone has successfully eradicated Babesia or improved their condition by using Lariam? My LLMD wants me to take Lariam now, but some of the information about its side effects are pretty scary, so I'm hesitant. And I also read somewhere that Lariam will only suppress the Babesia infection and won't completely eradicate it.
Just to give some background information: My titer is not really that high as it has been 16 years since my tick bite and my LLMD only discovered this positive Babesia titer a couple of years ago; I don't have significant Babesia symptoms (drenching sweats, high fever, etc.); I took four months of Mepron/Azithromycin and although my titer approached the normal range at that time, I didn't feel any differently.
So my conclusion is that my disabling symptoms (nerve pain in legs and back) are most likely from the chronic Lyme disease, and do I really want to take Lariam and risk messing up my brain on the slim chance it will improve some of my more superficial symptoms. Any insights would be appreciated!
Thanks,
Steve

I tried the artemisinin by Dr. Zhang, but it sent my liver enzymes through the roof, so I decided it would be best not to take it long term. I'm currently taking an artemisia/clove combination made by Bioray along with red root herb and boneset herb. I will get tested again in January, so I'll post again if this protocol worked. I'm afraid my titer will still be positive though, hence the inquiry about the effectiveness of Lariam for Babesia. Do you know of another brand of artemesia that has produced results? Thanks.

I'm just a beginner, recently dx with Lyme and babesia, but am a total research geek. I just finished reading both of Schaller's books on babesia, and he recommended pulsing with artemisinin. (and apparently there are many forms of artemisinin)
Several weeks ago I was looking at http://www.hormoneandlongevitycenter.com/lymedisease/ which is part of the Holtorf clinic and I googled each drug or herb they recommended, and if I'm remembering correctly - Lariam is that anti-malarial med that people have psychotic reactions to?? The one that they don't use is foreign countries?
Anyway, it seems there are several more options to try first (if Lariam is the one I'm thinking it may be).
Good luck.

Hi Linda. Sorry to hear about your Lyme and Babesia diagnosis. You are correct that Lariam causes psychotic reactions in some people, hence my concern about trying it. But I noticed in your web link that they list Lariam as their #2 recommended treatment for Babesia. I doubt I'll try it unless I can find some people who have had dramatic improvment afer taking it.
Good luck,
Steve

I went ahead and tried the Lariam after all and after 3 months of treatment, my titer is finally negative. I don't feel any different though, so that's frustrating. However, the doctor insists the Lyme will be easier to treat now that the Babesia is gone.
