Loose stools from Salt/C protocol

Hi, I have been using the Salt/c protocol for a few weeks now and am having a bit of trouble. I am getting some mild herxes so its working good on that front, however, the stuff just seems to go right through me. So much so that i am having to supplement extra fat soluable vitamins like A and E and take extra minerals. I've also tried drinking more of it during meals but i can't drink all that i need to at those times because it isn't good for digestion. The E-book mentions this and says that it is a detox reaction and that it is a good thing. But this protocol uses loads of sea salt similar to a salt flush you would use to cleanse the GI tract. It also uses high doses of C that causes the runs, and also, the magnesium supplementing only makes things worse. I rolled with it for a while to let my system acclimate to it in hopes that the runs would go away but they haven't. I don't really want to increase my doses now because things only gets worse. Have any of you out there in cyberworld experienced anything like this? Thanks much!

I am absolutely new to Lyme (just diagnosed with Lyme and Babesia after 10 years of illness), so take what I say with a grain of salt ;-). I have throughout the course of my illness taken a lot of vitamin C and have had many problems with stomach, bowel, even bladder tolerance. I finally found a brand of C which I love and can tolerate up 15,000mg/day. It's put out my Longevityplus.com and it's called BioEnergyC. It's a powder and each rounded teaspoon contains 4,000mg Vitamin C and 2,000mg of GMS Ribose. I don't know how the Ribose could affect the salt/c protocol, though. But it is the only C I can tolerate. I usually take 5,000mg/day, but today I feel a cold coming on, so I'll take 15,000mg - tomorrow I'll be fine.
Additionally, if you are not trying to 'flush the bowels' my friend and I have been taking psyllium husks in the morning with breakfast. We usually make a smoothy of our vitamin powders, psyllium, liquid minerals, coconut oil, etc. We were, like you, finding that after breakfast and taking $$$$ worth of supplements that it was all going down the toilet within minutes. The fiber has slowed down our trips to bathroom, to about twice a day. (more for poddy :-) So, if your not trying to 'flush' we have found it beneficial to keep the supplements in longer to be absorbed.
I hope this helps and doesn't contradict anything.

Thanks for the response HarborLinda, It sounds like a good plan you've oulined. I have recently recieved a rife machine so I am no longer doing the Salt/C program but i'll give your method a try if I end up returning to it in the future. Thane MN

According to Robert Cathcart, the level of Vitamin C you should take is related to how much you body uses. So really sick people can take much more without getting loose stools. It's called bowel tolerance dose, and people have different tolerances. This means that you need to adjust the level to your needs. Splitting the dosage into at least 4 or something like that a day. Maybe take it at night too? I was thinking of taking it at night so as not to give the parasites or whatever time to recuperate during nighttime. Is it OK to mix in a little baking soda to reduce acidity maybe?

You know it did occur to me that I may just not be able to handle the amount of C that the protocol calls for but I hadn't seen it mentioned anywhere, good idea! Also, i don't know if it is ok to add baking soda or not but I have always used Buffered Vitamin C so the added minerals help alkalize and also I believe Sea Salt is alkaline as well so maybe that would be sufficient..

I've been using the salt/vitamin C protocol for a few months now. I experienced diarrhea for the first couple of weeks but as time went on it eventually ceased. Are you sure that you are using a 'natural' salt? I'm using the salt recommended in Mr. Rosner's book. I have felt better than I have in a very long time but I do suppose that some people might find it hard to tolerate large doses of salt. I'm also using my own modified version of the Marshall Protocol. I go for a week or so and then give my body a rest. Seems to be working. Good luck!

I am thinking about doing the Rife machine and the C/salt at the same time. Does any one think that might be ok...or too much at once?
