As many of you know, mangosteen is one of the "top 10" treatments in my book, http://www.defeatlyme.com .
I am continually impressed with mangosteen fruit as an antibiotic. Many say they can discontinue antibiotics while using it. Although previously illegal to import, the U.S. has just lifted trade embargo on mangosteens so you can buy the whole fruit now in the U.S., although still hard to find and expensive. I might get some from a specialty produce company in NYC just for the fun of it. However, the fruit JUICE product is still most accessible.
There are numerous brands of mangosteen juice, most notably (that which I talk about in my book) Xango. This stuff is good, but expensive. Plus, it has "fillers" and other stuff in it - mostly sugary juices which lyme sufferers don't need.
Even better, and cheaper, I think, is Adam's mangosteen juice, 100%, no fillers:

However, if you are really on a budget, I just found a great deal - Mangosteen at costco.com for 17.59 - 5 instant discount = $12.89 plus shipping! Check it out:
http://www.costco.com/Browse/Product.aspx?prodid=11066388&whse=&topnav=&cat=&s=1#
I have received numerous reports that this costco brand IS good stuff and DOES have high quality mangosteen in it, and has the same "antibiotic" effect as any other mangosteen product would.
So, that is my holiday tip of the weekend. The only thing I ask of you in return for this invaluable tip (wink) is to please report your results publically on the group so we can gain a better understanding of how mangosteen effects Lyme disease.

Mangosteen, YES!
Well, last winter I was feeling great. My lyme had been more or less in remission for three or four years. I had been detoxing my liver from some meds previously taken. I was looking for some organic acai berry juice to sweeten my organic cocoa when I noticed that my naturopath had a bottle of Mangony juice by Now foods. Now also sells Mangosteen juice.
<http://www.thecatalog.com>
It contains mangosteen, acai and a lot of other berries high in antioxidants. I thought I would add it to my regimen. It tasted great. I had a teaspoon full, mixed into other things, two or three times a day for about a week.
Then on February 1, 2008, I awoke with a full blown Herx with all the neurological symptoms. The doctors put me in the hospital thinking I had a stroke. All tests were negative.
I insisted on a lyme test and it came back positive. Thats when I realized that the Lyme was back! Actually it was always there. I found this site and after reading Bryan's books, I have a better perspective on what happened.
Since then I have tried the juice again, just one teaspoon daily for a week and still get pretty good neuro herxes.
Go slow with the Mangosteen!

go very slow ...drank xango juice a glass per day,for about 2 weeks, couldn't get out of bed/ just came off of iv rocephin for one year. Back in hospital, bed and pain like it was my first month on rocephin. It works just be aware a teaspoon to start out then increase weekly, watch signs of neuropathy. Treat as a high power antibiotic not just a juice!!!!! listen to what bryan says about juice ...very important tell doctor what you are taking and keep journal of juice intake..
keep the faith, sobs

What is a good starting dose of VitalXan mangosteen (pericarp powder)for a very sensitive person?
The serving size suggested on the package is 100 mls of the mixture. I have a feeling this would be insane.
I could mix it up, start with one drop and increase each day until I notice something. I suppose this could take a ridiculously long time to reach an effective dose, though.
Any suggestions?

I don't know the concentration of that brand, but I would suggest no more than a teaspoon a day for a week or two and prepare for a herx.
I got a pretty bad neuro herx which lasted about a week.
You are going to get a herx from anything that works.
Just remember if you have Lyme, Mangosteen is a potent antibiotic, not a tasty juice.
Good Luck, Jeani
